Buffalo Song with Sergeant Tommy Prince Students

STPS Student song group performing buffalo song

Dec 17th, 2024, Brokenhead Ojibwe Nation celebrated and welcomed the return of buffalo to their land. The buffalo were a gift from Zagime Anishinabek First Nation in Saskatchewan, which included 20 buffalo cows and 2 bulls. The following day, on December 18th, the two nations and the original giver of the Bison, nicknamed Liima (New Zealand), signed a treaty accepting the bison and the responsibility to gift bison to another nation in several years. At the signing ceremony, Sergeant Tommy Prince students joined in witnessing both days of the historical event, and the student singing and drum group honored the gift and guests with a Buffalo Song.

The nations participating in the gifting process are looking forward to the presence of Buffalo in their lands, to the benefits they will bring to the local ecosystem, and to the benefits they will provide for the nation.
